Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, if he will make a statement on the proposed Hatfield Peverel to Witham link road.

Answer: Mr. Hurst: To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the proposed Hatfield Peverel to Witham link road. [215119] Mr. Jamieson: The objectives of the improvement scheme are to provide safer access to and from the A12 by improving the junction arrangements at Hatfield Peverel and Witham, providing adequate space for traffic to merge and weave, and to reduce congestion by separating the existing local traffic between Hatfield Peverel and Witham from the A12. Further to the outcome of the public inquiry into proposals for a link road on the south side of the A12 held in 2003, the Highways Agency has reviewed all viable options. Several are now being looked at in more detail and assessment work should be completed by early summer.
