Question: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills, what assessment she has made of the increase in the number of language teachers that would be needed to implement the recommendations of the Tomlinson Report; what assessment she has made of the workforce training requirements of the implementation of the recommendation of the Tomlinson Report that languages should be either an elective or compulsory component in other specialisations.

Answer: Helen Jones: To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills (1) what assessment she has made of the increase in the number of language teachers that would be needed to implement the recommendations of the Tomlinson Report; [211237] (2) what assessment she has made of the workforce training requirements of the implementation of the recommendation of the Tomlinson Report that languages should be either an elective or compulsory component in other specialisations. [211238] Mr. Stephen Twigg: We are currently preparing a White Paper on the 14-19 phase, including our response to the recommendations of the final report of the Working Group on 14-19 Reform chaired by Mike Tomlinson. Our White Paper, which will be published soon, will include an assessment of the impact of our recommendations on work force training; teaching and learning in the 14-19 phase.
