Proceeding contribution from Speaker in the House of Commons on Monday, 18 July 2005. It occurred during Tribute on Sir Edward Heath KG MBE.
Sir Edward Heath KG MBE
Before I put the Question, I would like to pay my own tribute to Sir Edward. As Father of the House, he was always very kind and supportive to me and to Mary, my wife. In recent years, he was a very welcome visitor to Speaker’s House and I greatly appreciated his advice. I well remember his masterful and informative speeches on Europe, when I was a Back Bencher. I was always aware that I was in the presence of a man who had volunteered to serve his country when it faced the dangers of fascism. He will be missed by this House.
