Proceeding contribution from David Leslie Taylor (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 17 January 2006. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Equity Release Schemes.
Equity Release Schemes
: My hon. Friend paints a vivid and bleak picture of what is happening with mortgages and reversions. Does he agree that a smallish minority of firms encourage the elderly to borrow more than they need? That drives up the charges that they pay and, of course, lines the pockets of a small group of advisers. Is that not reprehensible? Should the FSA step in there when it eventually produces a regulatory scheme?
