Proceeding contribution from David Davis (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Monday, 13 February 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill on Identity Cards Bill.

Identity Cards Bill

The hon. Gentleman likes to make his name on economics. I will give way to him after this section. Even on the Government’s figures, the price of passports for a family of four would rise from £134 to £372. On the LSE’s figures, which I trust more, the cost could be as high as £300 per person or more than £1,000 for a family of four—a plastic poll tax that the Government must fear will lead no one to volunteer for the system.
