Proceeding contribution from Lord Rooker (Labour) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 22 March 2006. It occurred during Debates on delegated legislation on Northern Ireland Act 2000 (Modification) Order 2006.
Northern Ireland Act 2000 (Modification) Order 2006
No, I am not saying that at all. I am saying that when we have the legislation and the noble Lord has tabled an amendment to it and I am responsible for responding on that amendment for the Government, I will give a view on it. Before that, I am not going to say anything else. Government policy is government policy, and we will give a response to the amendment. It is the role of the House to scrutinise the Government and put forward other proposals and amendments, and I shall give a response then. I am not saying that it is going to be considered or not but, obviously, my job is to respond to amendments, and I shall clearly do that. On Question, Motion agreed to.
