Proceeding contribution from Brooks Newmark (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 20 April 2006. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Forensic Science.
Forensic Science
The hon. Gentleman raises one important point, which is about bringing students into forensic sciences. My main concern is that there is little joined-up thinking between the encouragement that is given to students to go into the important field of forensic sciences, and the lack of resources going into sciences in general and chemistry in particular. We heard a very poor message from the Government, when they responded to the closure of the chemistry department at the university of Sussex and, before that, the closure of the chemistry department at the university of Exeter. I am sure that the hon. Gentleman will agree that they give grave concern to everyone.
