Proceeding contribution from Lord Willis of Knaresborough (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 20 April 2006. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Forensic Science.
Forensic Science
: Again, the hon. Gentleman tries to tempt me into an area that I do not want to go into. There is a disconnection between a policy that says on the one hand that certain subjects are of strategic national and regional importance; and on the other, that we can have a market in higher education and a vice-chancellor can say, ββIt is better for us to have 300 English graduates than 20 or 30 chemistry graduates, because it is cheaper to run their courses.ββ There must be something fundamentally wrong with that system.
