Proceeding contribution from Lord McKenzie of Luton (Labour) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 10 May 2006. It occurred during Debate on bill on Company Law Reform Bill [HL].
Company Law Reform Bill [HL]
moved Amendment No. 322:"Page 235, line 29, after ““not,”” insert ““by reason of being named or identified as senior statutory auditor or””" The noble Lord said: My Lords, in moving Amendment No. 322, I shall speak also to Amendments Nos. 323 and 324. We listened carefully in Grand Committee to arguments put forward about the potential liability of the senior statutory auditor. We cannot but accept that there is a risk that auditors will fear that they may attract extra liability from some aspect of their role as senior statutory auditor, besides signing their name to the audit report. We have tabled Amendment No. 322, which I hope covers the concerns raised. I hope that the noble Baroness will not feel the need to press the other amendments in the group. I beg to move.
