Proceeding contribution from Marquess of Lothian (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 22 June 2006. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Defence Policy.

Defence Policy

I am very grateful to the right hon. Gentleman for giving way, but I would not presume that he can give me instructions on what my intervention should be about. In fact, I was not going to ask him a question about that. On the general policy, since the strategic defence review in 1998, have not the envisaged levels of commitment gone up and the envisaged levels of resources, both human and financial, gone down? Are not our armed forces more undermanned, more ill-equipped and more under-trained than at any time in the past 60 years?
