Proceeding contribution from Nicholas Winterton (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 25 July 2007. It occurred during Debate on Home Affairs.

Home Affairs

I am not sure that this is entirely a matter of timing. I suggest to the right hon. and learned Lady that if another nomination had been made, it might well have gone through without any difficulty. A matter has been raised that causes many of us deep concern, and I have to raise it with her. The right hon. Member for Leicester, East (Keith Vaz) is not just being appointed as a member of the Home Affairs Committee; he is being put forward as a member of the Committee in order to assume the Chair. That is what is really of concern to Members.
