Proceeding contribution from Jack Straw (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 4 December 2007. It occurred during Opposition day on Political Parties (Funding).
Political Parties (Funding)
May I say to the hon. Gentleman, in rather more temperate language, that what he is claiming is simply incorrect? Paragraph B3 of the draft agreement from Hayden Phillips states:"““A single overall limit will apply to the expenditure of each party, including all its constituent organisations whether national, regional, local or other.””" Of course there is an issue about the discretion that will be exercised, but it is quite clear that Hayden Phillips has it in mind that local spending would be covered.
