Voltaire defined hypocrisy as the compliment that vice pays to virtue, and never was that more accurate than in the case of that south Wales newspaper. I am delighted to see that my right hon. and learned Friend the Leader of the House has taken her place on the Front Bench, along with my hon. Friend the Deputy Leader of the House. My right hon. Friend has taken a lot of unfair criticism since she very bravely raised this matter on the ““Today”” programme just before Christmas, but this is a debate whose time has come. It will not be easy, but the discussion has to begin.
