Proceeding contribution from Baroness Hamwee (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Monday, 21 January 2008. It occurred during Debate on bill and Committee proceeding on Regulatory Enforcement and Sanctions Bill [HL].

Regulatory Enforcement and Sanctions Bill [HL]

Before the noble Lord withdraws the amendment, can the Minister answer a point with which we have all been grappling? The Secretary of State has the power to sack a board member if, among other things, he or she has, "““failed to comply with the terms of his or her appointment””." That takes us back to what each board member is supposed to be doing. I do not think that it is just a case of turning up once every three months for two hours. I am sorry to have come in so late on that point, but what the noble Lord said provoked me to look at it.
