European Union (Amendment) Bill
I want to get to the end of this bit, because I find it very interesting. Another Foreign Office Minister said:"““I say simply that I believe our parliamentary democracy is strong enough to survive without referenda.””—[Official Report, House of Lords, 30 June 1992; Vol. 538, c. 661.]" That was the Conservative Government’s attitude on the Maastricht treaty.
