European Union (Amendment) Bill
If that was the reason, I am glad that the hon. Gentleman has put it on the record. The main point for me is that those who took our business in the House seriously—those who read the treaty and referred to its substantive clauses—were doing the job that they were sent here to do. To say that that work should be done in a referendum is to abrogate our responsibilities as politicians.
