Proceeding contribution from Baroness Ashton of Upholland (Labour) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 22 April 2008. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on European Union (Amendment) Bill.

European Union (Amendment) Bill

I have the consolidated text before me. If I look at the Treaty on the European Union and go to Article 17(5)—this is for the connoisseurs—and then go to Article 244 in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, I see that Article 245 says: "““The members of the Commission may not, during their term of office, engage in any other occupation, whether gainful or not””." It is pretty clear to me.
