Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill

I thank my right hon. and learned Friend for giving way—it means that he gets a bit of extra time, from which the House will benefit. I am not sure that the mood in the country is exactly as my right hon. and learned Friend has expressed it because 77 per cent. of people said that the obligation to have regard to the child's need for a father was either important or very important. Those of us who oppose the ““father”” provision speak on behalf of more people than perhaps the social liberals do.
