Proceeding contribution from Lord Leach of Fairford (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 20 May 2008. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on European Union (Amendment) Bill.

European Union (Amendment) Bill

I am grateful for that intervention. It could be satisfactory if the election were immediately to precede a move to adopt this, that or the other measure. But if the election comes two or three years later, the bird may already have flown and it may be far too late. I think that that would be the case here. The expectations of the people have been disappointed once. It must not happen again. I have pleasure in supporting the amendment.
