Proceeding contribution from Tobias Ellwood (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 15 July 2008. It occurred during Adjournment debate on The Tote.

The Tote

Owing to the shortage of time, I shall come straight to that. The right hon. Gentleman put forward an interesting proposition. The first reaction ought to come from the industry. It is a shame that we did not have an advance copy of the statement that he made today, so that we could have provided more of a reaction. Clearly, I cannot comment now. It is for the Minister, not the Opposition, to comment first. I mentioned that the right hon. Gentleman was very humble, but he also said that we are where we are, which was an appalling excuse for what happened. As much as I like him—he is an amicable character—he was in the job for six years.
