Proceeding contribution from John Leech (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 16 July 2008. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Road Safety.
Road Safety
If the Government are not keen on graduated driving licences, could the insurance industry take a lead? There was a pilot for ““pay as you drive”” insurance discouraging evening driving by young people and allowing them to have lower premiums. Young people are often discouraged from driving by high premiums because they are such a high risk. If the insurance companies were to introduce ““pay as you drive”” insurance to restrict evening and night driving, and driving with passengers at night, they could reduce premiums and the number of accidents.
