Criminal Evidence (Witness Anonymity) Bill
There is another important characteristic, namely that the police will not as a matter of routine promise anonymity because they will come to realise that the independent counsel investigating the case will say that the factual basis is not made out. Therefore the anxiety about an extension in the numbers of the orders might be reduced.
