Proceeding contribution from John Howell (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 23 October 2008. It occurred during Topical debate on Work and Skills.

Work and Skills

The hon. Gentleman is right. Businesses do not work to a set timetable, and the barriers that inhibit apprenticeships must be driven out of the system. I urge the Government to think about introducing further flexibility in the skills arena and to reassure us that in doing so they will take into account the importance of competitiveness in how these programmes are run.
