Policing and Criminal Justice (Northern Ireland)
Does the Minister agree that, if the Eames-Bradley consultative group recommends that the troubles in Northern Ireland be reclassified as a war—we do not know what the report will say—it would have serious repercussions for the investigation of the past, because we would no longer be dealing with the murder or maiming of security forces, but with the issues of warfare? Moreover, those who have confessed to being the commanders of the IRA—I name the hon. Member for Belfast, West (Mr. Adams) and the hon. Member for Mid-Ulster (Mr. McGuinness)—would be guilty of war crimes and should be charged in accordance with that.
