Proceeding contribution from Robert Key (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 21 May 2009. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Gurkhas.
Gurkhas
I warmly applaud the Government's decision, which is good news indeed. Most of my constituents will be very happy about it, except for the members of the British National party who have put out a leaflet saying that all Gurkhas should go home, which is utterly disgraceful. Will the Home Secretary clarify one point from her statement? She said that this policy applies to all former Gurkhas who retired before 1997. May I assume that she is referring to post-1947 Gurkhas—in other words, those who served with the British Army and not the Indian army?
