Proceeding contribution from Kelvin Hopkins (Labour) in the House of Commons on Monday, 1 June 2009. It occurred during Debate on bill on Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill [Lords].
Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill [Lords]
It is interesting that it was the Conservatives who abolished the Greater London council and the metropolitan county councils and took away the business rate, taking it centrally. They also sought to undermine and dismantle local authority housing provision and many other things. I do not quite believe that they are really in favour of local democracy.
