Proceeding contribution from Mark Durkan (Social Democratic & Labour Party) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 24 June 2009. It occurred during Opposition day on Iraq Inquiry.
Iraq Inquiry
My hon. Friend refers to the chair of the inquiry, who has form. In Northern Ireland, he was used to report on the security implications of the Castlereagh inquiry. Then we had a classic exercise in misdirection, because that report had nothing to do with the events of the break-in, what lay behind it or anything else. It was used as a vehicle for an ulterior agenda to change intelligence policing in Northern Ireland and break the Patten model for policing. Sir John Chilcot, if he was a business, would not be in "Yellow Pages" under headings such as "Independent" or "Challenging".
