Proceeding contribution from Baroness Linklater of Butterstone (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 15 July 2009. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Coroners and Justice Bill.

Coroners and Justice Bill

It is with a heavy heart that I say that I did not necessarily expect the Government to accept my amendments, but I wish that they had ears to hear. The fact that my amendment is supported by, of all people, the noble and learned Baroness, Lady Butler-Sloss, should not be ignored by the Government. Moreover, the support of the former Lord Chief Justice, the noble and learned Lord, Lord Woolf, for the concept of media expertise is also worth a second thought. I shall consider what the Government have said but I should add that experience of policing does not give you insights into and knowledge of the needs of children and their welfare that I have discussed. However, as I say, I shall consider this further and possibly come back to it. Amendment 187AA agreed. Amendment 187AB not moved. Amendment 187B had been withdrawn from the Marshalled List.
