Proceeding contribution from Baroness Keeley (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 21 July 2009. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Summer Recess Adjournment.
Summer Recess Adjournment
Thank you for that intervention, Mr. Deputy Speaker. We can draw a parallel between the contributions of Members who have stayed to the end—we hope to stay to the bitter end, 10 o'clock—of this debate, the last debate of the summer, and the dogged determination of our valiant cricket teams in the current Ashes test series. Members will note that I use the word "teams", in the plural, because I mean the women's cricket team as well as the men's team. Of course, the women have already retained the Ashes, so congratulations to them. The fine stand of Anderson and Panesar, hanging on until the finish to take a draw from the first ever test match in Cardiff, was equal to the determination of right hon. and hon. Members here to raise their constituency issues and other issues in this penultimate debate before the recess.
