Proceeding contribution from Vincent Cable (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 21 October 2009. It occurred during Opposition day on Equitable Life.
Equitable Life
We all understand that the Minister has a perfectly legitimate role in protecting the Treasury, but his argument seems to be that the Government’s route is designed to protect the policyholders by getting them resolution more quickly than the ombudsman. Why, then, does he think the policyholders have invested a substantial amount of money in order to pursue a legal action to follow the ombudsman route, rather than the one that he is recommending?
