Proceeding contribution from Lord Brabazon of Tara (Non-affiliated) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 16 December 2009. It occurred during Non-legislative formal proceeding on Standing Orders (Private Business).

Standing Orders (Private Business)

My Lords, this Motion, and the following two Motions in the name of the noble Baroness the Leader of the House, formally implement the recommendations of the Procedure Committee which were agreed to yesterday. The changes to private business standing orders give effect to the abolition of the Personal Bills Committee. The changes to public business and judicial standing orders are the necessary consequence of the establishment of the Supreme Court and the ending of the House’s judicial function. In case noble Lords are curious about why I am moving the first Motion and the Leader of the House is moving the others, the reason is that as Chairman of Committees I am responsible for the conduct of private business, whereas the Leader of the House conventionally takes responsibility for all other procedural matters. The second and third Motions are therefore in her name. I beg to move. Motion agreed.
