Proceeding contribution from Julie Morgan (Labour) in the House of Commons on Friday, 29 January 2010. It occurred during Debate on bill on Sunbeds (Regulation) Bill.
Sunbeds (Regulation) Bill
That is an essential point to make. It is important that the House supports the Bill, because we have the support of the public and all the organisations involved in the field. The only effective way to prevent under-18s from using sunbeds is to ensure that salons are supervised, and the only way to ensure that adults can make informed choices is to ensure that information is available to them at the time of use. There has been a tremendous campaign to get legislation such as this on the statute book and we have had support from a wide range of people. We have a real opportunity to protect children from sunbeds while we have the chance to do so. The Bill could save lives. I hope that Members will support it today, and I commend it to the House.
