Proceeding contribution from Mark Simmonds (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Friday, 12 March 2010. It occurred during Debate on bill on Sunbeds (Regulation) Bill.

Sunbeds (Regulation) Bill

My hon. Friend makes a powerful point. The length of time from the initial exposure to artificial light or sunlight to the occurrence of skin cancer is one of the major problems in making people taking this issue seriously. However, I do not think—although I am not saying that my hon. Friend is suggesting this—that that is an excuse to do nothing. We must do what we can to ensure that people understand the potential risks of exposure to artificial and natural sunlight. I assure the Minister and the hon. Members for Cardiff, North and for Swansea, East that we on the Opposition Front Bench support the Bill, and we hope that it has an expeditious passage into law.
