Proceeding contribution from Liam Byrne (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 16 March 2010. It occurred during Opposition day on Equitable Life.

Equitable Life

The answer is yes—Sir John Chadwick has tried to compare the relative losses of different classes of policyholders. Let me conclude by saying that all Members of this House will have constituents who have been affected by the injustice of Equitable Life, which now stretches back almost two decades. We are committed to acting urgently and fairly, even in the current fiscal climate. That approach is reflected in the Government's proposed amendment to the motion.
