Economic Downturn (Unemployment)

My hon. Friend makes a good point. It is always difficult for a Minister to look at currency fluctuations and predict what might happen. As we know, currency rates go up as well as down. All recessions present opportunities to address structural weaknesses, of which the south-west has more than its share. Although those were ignored throughout the recessions of the ’80s and ’90s, one hopes that lessons have been learned and that they will be addressed in this downturn.
