Proceeding contribution from Linda Gilroy (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 3 September 2009. It occurred during Grand Committee proceedings (HC) on Economic Downturn (Unemployment).
Economic Downturn (Unemployment)
Does the hon. Gentleman think that some lessons have been learned? For instance, figures for Devon show that over three months there were 2,509 on-flows or people who lost jobs, and 2,806 off-flows or people who found jobs. Sadly, that is not the case in my constituency, where the figures are rather different. I think that we ought to be balanced about what is happening and give hope to those who are losing their jobs by pointing out that people are also finding jobs in significant numbers.
