Proceeding contribution from Rachel Reeves (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 13 July 2010. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HC) and Debate on bill on Finance Bill.

Finance Bill

I have already given way to the right hon. Gentleman and I am just winding up now. My constituents are being asked to make sacrifices that they can ill afford, most especially through the increase in VAT, well beyond the sacrifices that those at the top are being asked to make. I therefore fully support the amendment and ask that the Government undertake a full analysis of the impact and extent that this regressive, unfair and unjust VAT rise will have on those groups who can least afford to pay and least deserve a tax hike.
