Proceeding contribution from Diana Johnson (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 14 September 2010. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Accident and Emergency Services.
Accident and Emergency Services
I am very happy to let the Minister respond in full in a few moments. I am reaching the end of my comments. Secondly, does the assessment of proposals that SHAs have been asked to carry out apply to existing schemes? Thirdly, if it is not for Ministers to intervene in service changes, why did they promise to halt closures of A and E departments and maternity departments before the general election? I also want to say, Mr Walker, that I am delighted to serve under your chairmanship today. I am not sure if this is your first opportunity to be in the Chair in a Westminster Hall debate, but it is certainly a pleasure to see you in the Chair today.
