Proceeding contribution from Michael Ellis (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 14 December 2010. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Courts Service Estate.
Courts Service Estate
I declare my interest as a barrister—in fact, I have appeared in a couple of these courts. The Minister mentioned how busy Northampton magistrates court is, and said that that had been factored into some of his decisions. Some of the hearings in magistrates courts are very short, and some magistrates courts are underutilised, so can my hon. Friend confirm that because of the shortness and frequency of such hearings, they are particularly susceptible to the use of video link and other modern technology, and that savings could thus be made across the board?
