I am not sure that I accept the hon. Gentleman's analysis at all on that. Every bid will be judged fairly on its merit. There are some strict criteria in place, the details of which are available on the Department for Culture, Media and Sport website. I hope that those criteria will allay some of his concerns. I am sure that the tradition of referring to Perth as the fair city will continue whatever the outcome of the competition. However, there is only one way to become recognised as a city in the UK: by having the honour conferred by the sovereign. That is the prize that awaits the successful entrant to the competition. I wish all potential entrants, including the fair city of Perth, the very best of luck.
