We have estimated that reducing the size of the other place will save £12.2 million annually, made up of reduced salary costs of £4.1 million and £8.1 million in reduced expenditure on MPs’ expenses. At a time when the whole public sector is being asked to do more with less, this is a relatively modest saving, but one worth making.
