Proceeding contribution from Tom Brake (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 1 March 2011. It occurred during Debate on bill on Protection of Freedoms Bill.
Protection of Freedoms Bill
I do not think that any Government Member is saying that the previous Government achieved nothing in relation to civil liberties. However, does the right hon. Gentleman agree that on the other side of the balance, in terms of what the Government did, were the fiasco over 90-days' detention, control orders, blanket stop-and-search powers and some very draconian measures that went to the heart of providing a threat to our civil liberties?
