Proceeding contribution from Baroness Teather (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 2 March 2011. It occurred during Estimates day on Sure Start Children's Centres.

Sure Start Children's Centres

Yes, I fear that the hon. Gentleman probably has not read all the document. Part of the problem is that in some areas—[Interruption.] If the hon. Gentleman lets me finish, then he can shout at me. In some areas, we find that there is no need for full day care, and if there is no need, we end up subsidising full day-care places, which is not sensible. We should put that money into the evidence-based programmes that make the difference, to which the hon. Member for South Northamptonshire (Andrea Leadsom) referred. That is where the money must go, and that is why we have taken away the requirement for full day care. There is no requirement for both professionals, but there will need to be one.
