Proceeding contribution from Baroness Teather (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 2 March 2011. It occurred during Estimates day on Sure Start Children's Centres.

Sure Start Children's Centres

I will give way in a moment; let me answer one point at a time. The hon. Gentleman should not get too excited. I do not want to spell out the details, particularly because when finances are tight there is an even bigger onus on us to ensure that we provide flexibility for local decision making. I do not think that we will get better decisions if I try to drive all this from Whitehall. We will get better decisions if local authorities can look at their provision and work out how they can best rationalise it based on local need.
