Proceeding contribution from Lord Falconer of Thoroton (Labour) in the House of Lords on Monday, 21 March 2011. It occurred during Committee of the Whole House (HL) and Debate on bill on Fixed-term Parliaments Bill.
Fixed-term Parliaments Bill
I may be wrong, but my recollection is that Mr Callaghan went to the country because of a Motion of no confidence passed in the House of Commons. To describe him as choosing an election date seems, if I may say so, a little misplaced.
