Proceeding contribution from Lord Young of Cookham (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Monday, 18 July 2011. It occurred during Legislative debate on Draft Financial Services Bill (Joint Committee).
Draft Financial Services Bill (Joint Committee)
No, there is a convention that the nomination of Members to Joint Committees such as this are made by the political parties. That is the procedure that we have followed in this case and I regret that some Members have sought to frustrate that process. It is the Government's hope that this very important Bill will now be given the pre-legislative scrutiny it deserves and that these wrecking tactics will stop. I commend the motion to the House.
