Proceeding contribution from Ian Lucas (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 20 October 2011. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Statement.
Work Programme
The Social Market Foundation produced a useful report on the Work programme in August, and I am sure that the Minister is familiar with it. It pointed out, first, that unemployment—on the claimant count—has risen by 110,000 since December 2010. It went on to say that as a result of the increase in the number of people out of work under the present Government, and because of their policies, there are ““serious concerns about the viability of WP under current plans.”” What changes is the Minister making to the Work programme as a result of that unprecedented and worrying increase in unemployment?
