Proceeding contribution from Martin Horwood (Liberal Democrat) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 26 January 2012. It occurred during Topical debate and Backbench debate on European Council.

European Council

The hon. Lady makes some of the points that I made several months ago and that other hon. Members sympathetic to the pro-European cause made at the time of the summit. Surely we have now moved on. The Prime Minister, in his remarks today at Davos, quite clearly stated;"β€œβ€œIt fundamentally reflects our national interest to be part of the single market on our doorstep and we have intention of walking away. So let me be clear: we want Europe to be a success.””" The process of re-engagement is under way.
