Proceeding contribution from Lord Dodds of Duncairn (Democratic Unionist Party) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 14 March 2012. It occurred during Adjournment debate on Local Media.
Local Media
The hon. Gentleman rightly emphasises the importance of local media. In my city, the Belfast Telegraph plays a very important role in the way that he has outlined. Will he accept that one of the challenges in terms of costs is that many local newspapers are moving their printing works out of local towns and cities to somewhere else, so that they can do it more cheaply? That is happening with the Belfast Telegraph now. It is obviously a concern that these local institutions, which have been going for 100 years and more, are now moving their work forces out of the cities that they serve.
