The point about whether the Bill is a Trojan horse has been mentioned several times. Our fears are compounded by quotes that appeared in The Sunday Telegraph, in which a senior Whitehall source was quoted as saying that"““the Treasury believes the move would provide evidence of the economic benefits of a permanent relaxation of Sunday trading laws””." The House can understand where the fears come from because officials were giving such briefings. My hon. Friend is therefore right to highlight that.
